A Pictorial History

Book series / Various authors

These twelve covers are those of the series of pictorial histories published by Veloce, a British-based publisher that recently became an imprint of a larger British firm, David & Charles Limited. As such Veloce gained access to the global market through David & Charles Limited’s greater number of distributors outside Britain. Thus the purchaser of an individual title simply goes to his or her local bookseller and places the order by title or ISBN (or online via Amazon) rather than purchasing directly from the publisher thus not having to deal with international shipping or currency exchange rates.

To date, as you can see in the pictures of their covers, there are a dozen different titles currently in this series. Additional titles will be forthcoming at regular intervals.

This page pair telling of and showing the P1800s and P1800 ES produced 1960 to June 1972 is in Volvo Cars, 1945-1995. The preponderance of this model’s production was shipped to, and sold new in, North America.

These are handy little books due to their modest 6” x 8″ size combined with the comprehensive coverage each offers of the various models of the make produced during the years identified in the subtitle. Imagine you are contemplating adding another vehicle to your collection. Perusing the pages of the volume that deals with your contemplated acquisition permits an armchair comparison of one year to another. If you’ve arranged to look at a specific car with an eye to purchasing—especially when correctness of original options that were available matter—having a compact, lightweight reference along with you can be invaluable.

This page pair is in Jaguar Cars, 1946 to 2008 telling of and showing XJ Series 1, 2 and 3 vehicles produced 1968 to 1992. “From a body styling perspective, it was Jaguar’s most successful car ever.”

Or perhaps you’ll be serving as a judge at a show or concours. Just as the owner of a show entry often has documentation supporting how his or her entry is equipped and presented, a book that’s easy to tuck in a pocket due to being light and conveniently-sized, can prove helpful. Each carefully explains in words and photos alike how a vehicle would have been when originally assembled by its manufacturer, And, precisely because each of these pictorial histories are compact and concise finding a particular fact is quick and easy when under pressure or a time constraint such as out on a showfield.

The twelve of these pictorial histories already published are:

And yes, the dozen published to date all have been written by men, but who knows what the future may hold. Each title has its own ISBN. All are reasonably priced from $27.50 to $35 depending on page count as well as prevailing costs when originally published.
